Smart Lighting and Community Services in Ajka – The promenade around the Csónakázó-lake has been revamped

Ajka has reached another milestone in sustainability and modern urban development: the pedestrian and running path around the Csónakázó-tó is now equipped with smart LED street lighting, welcoming both residents and visitors to the city.

One of the key features of the development is the energy-efficient HDMR Smart City lighting system, equipped with motion sensors, which is not only environmentally friendly but also convenient and safe. The system’s operation is simple yet revolutionary: as long as there is no one in the area, the lights operate at reduced power, achieving significant energy savings. However, when a pedestrian or runner approaches the section, the motion sensors activate multiple lights next to each other, adjusting them to the maximum power setting. This allows walkers and athletes to move through a long, safely illuminated light strip, as if they were being accompanied by light throughout the path. Once movement ceases in the area, the system returns to its reduced power state after the set time by the operator. The HDMR system installed around the lake achieves an average energy saving of over 60%.

The development brings positive impacts not only for people but also for nature. Another advantage of the HDMR-controlled Smart City lighting is that it reduces light pollution, which can be particularly disturbing to local wildlife at night. The dimmed LED light sources preserve the natural rhythm of the lakeside ecosystem, causing less disruption to nocturnal animals’ navigation and activities.

The intelligent HDMR Smart City lighting system is not only energy-efficient and environmentally friendly but also outstanding in terms of maintenance. The system includes fault diagnostics and monitoring, which tracks the operation of individual devices in real time. This means that in case of a malfunction, the operator receives a notification with exact details on which device is affected, where it is located, and what kind of issue it is. As a result, the repair process can be significantly accelerated, ensuring a more reliable and stable long-term operation.

In addition to the controlled lighting units, several Korintosz Smart Maxi-type smart poles have been installed around the lake. These poles go beyond traditional street lighting: they are equipped with cameras, WiFi devices, and charging stations, thus expanding the public space services with various convenience functions. The built-in camera system enhances public safety, while the integrated WiFi devices allow visitors to enjoy free internet access across a wide area—whether for work, leisure, or social experiences.

In response to the demands of the digital age, the poles also feature USB and Schuko connectors, providing the opportunity to charge phones, tablets, electric scooters, or even electric bicycles. This means that there is no concern about devices running low on battery while walking or exercising by the lake.

This innovation is not only forward-thinking from a technological standpoint but also contributes to enhancing Ajka’s livability and attractiveness. The development serves sustainability goals, public safety, and residents’ comfort—all within a beautiful natural environment at one of the city’s most popular recreational spots.

Ajka once again sets an example of how technology and nature can be harmoniously integrated in service.
